From Weak Link to Favourite: The Thrill of the Editorial Turnaround

A laptop screen displaying a document,

There is no better feeling in writing than taking something that just wasn’t working and watching it transform into something brilliant. Today, I’m celebrating a huge victory: I have almost finished editing what was ONCE the weakest chapter in my novel! 💻🥂

This chapter had been a sticking point for ages. It felt clunky, the pacing dragged, and the key action wasn’t landing with the impact it needed. It was a chore to look at, and I knew it was the part of the manuscript that most needed an overhaul.

But somehow, after a LOT of hard work—including some serious structural changes, character re-writes, and meticulous word choices—I’ve managed to turn it into one of my FAVOURITE and most fundamental chapters! 🎉🎉🎉 The scene now flows perfectly, the stakes are sky-high, and it sets up the final act of the book in a way I didn’t think was possible.

I absolutely LOVE these kind of turnarounds. That moment when a challenging, frustrating section finally clicks into place is pure magic. It’s what makes the editorial process so ADDICTIVE for me! It’s not just fixing errors; it’s excavating the best possible version of the story. Now, to just wrap up those final few sentences! 💜
